The left isn’t terribly fond of Rahm Emanuel. I have definitely been influenced by that perspective, but have had a slightly more nuanced view, coloured by a nice dose of uncertainty…I just don’t know enough about the man to make the call. One thing I certainly like is his call to defund the office of the Vice President, based on the fact that Cheney claims that he belongs to none of the three branches of government.
The failure of the Democrats to defund the war was a mistake. They made a big show, and then caved. Unlike that effort, this effort not only is political theatre, it should be political theatre. When Cheney creates legal fictions, when Dana Perino gives these ridiculous responses to the press…the only way to respond to farce is with farce.
