More questions on the ORU scandal

DocHoc at blue oklahoma asks some interesting questions about whether there is a connection between our anti-science senator and Richard Roberts.

Are government employees required to remain neutral on illegal activities?

From the Austin American Statesman [H/T Joshua Rosenau]
[Texas'] director of science curriculum has resigned after being accused of creating the appearance of bias against teaching intelligent design.
Seriously?
Comer was put on 30 days paid administrative leave shortly after she forwarded an e-mail in late October announcing a presentation being given by Barbara Forrest, author of “Inside [...]

Creationists, earmarks and David Vitter

The National Center for Science Education reports that disgraced United State Senator David Vitter withdrew his “earmark” which was supposed to funnel $100,000 to the Louisiana Family Forum, a right-wing religious group in Louisiana.  The NCSE article reports:
The earmark was the topic of instant controversy after the New Orleans Times-Picayune (September 22, 2007) reported on [...]

“Caught in their criminality”

While I haven’t always been Chris Matthews’ biggest fan, I was very impressed with what he had to say yesterday as part of Hardball’s tenth anniversary celebration.
In front of an audience that included such notables as Alan Greenspan, Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Sen. Ted Kennedy, Matthews began his remarks by declaring that he wanted to [...]

Non-Christians keep out

Apparently non-Christians are not welcome in Alorton, Illinois.   Signs around the town proclaim that in that town, “Jesus is Lord” (and Randy McCallum is mayor).  According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
In this town of 3,000 residents, there are at least 15 churches. Maybe 20. They’re featured prominently on business street corners. They’re also [...]

Rove resigns

Bush’s senior political adviser, Karl “Turdblossom” Rove, has resigned.
It’s always good news to hear that one more of them is gone. Rove has been behind so much of the evil of the Bush administration - his departure gives a sense of relief. In reality, it probably has no effect - Rove was an [...]

Another take on impeachment

Bruce Fein, who drafted the first article of impeachment against Clinton, said that Bush’s crimes are far worse than Clinton’s. With regards to Clinton, Fein said:
He was setting a precedent that placed the President above the law. I did not believe that the initial perjury or misstatements that came perhaps in a moment [...]

Go Keith!

Straw that breaks the camel’s back?

While the Libby pardon (sorry, commutation) should have just been one more in a tale of corruption and lawlessness by the Bush administration, it felt different, it felt disproportionately insulting.
Writing at HuffPo, Cenk Uygur calls it the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Bill Maher wrote this morning that Bush letting Scooter Libby’s off the hook [...]
