I have spent the past few months trying to figure out what it is about Sean Kingston‘s music. It’s bubblegum, it’s really simple, repetitive, and totally derivative. But what is it that makes it so evocative of my teens? I finally figured it out. When I was in high school there were standards at any fete – Rock the Boat, Oh What a Night and a few others. And then there was Rockers – not very good reggae remakes of just about everything.
And that’s what Sean Kingston evokes. Perfectly. In bubblegum…
